FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Volunteers at the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen in Fort Wayne were putting the finishing touches Monday afternoon on Thanksgiving meals for as many as 1,000 people.

The charitable group will stay busy over the next few days and will offer the free feast for pick-up Thursday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the meals will be presented for carry-out only... but anyone is welcome to come by.

“One of the beautiful thing about the soup kitchen here is, when these people come in and get their soup on any basis, they’re not asked for identification, they’re not asked for residency,” Patrick McBride, who chairs the dinner-prep effort, told Fort Wayne’s NBC. “It’s no embarrassment. You’re here because you need some food, and we’re here to give you food.”

The cooking of the turkeys is just about done, but there’s more work ahead. Volunteers are still needed to prepare side dishes -- something that will be done on Wednesday. The St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen is located at 1101 Lafayette St. The phone number is (260) 426-1217.
