Adams Central’s magical season falls short in, 34-28, loss to Indianapolis Lutheran

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Adams Central Flying Jets dominant run was concluded Friday, as they were defeated by Indianapolis Lutheran, 34-28, in the Class 1A State Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Flying Jets took a commanding 21-7 advantage midway through the second quarter behind two Blake Heyerly rushing touchdowns and a dazzling 59-yard punt return for a score by Nick Nuenschwander.

Although Adams Central held the early lead, Lutheran would score 21 unanswered points on their way to an eventual lead late in the third quarter. AC’s Blake Heyerly found the end zone in the fourth quarter for a game-tying three yard score, which locked the contest at 28 all.

However, Lutheran, a few drives later would score the dagger on a Montasi Clay 12-yard Quarterback keeper for a touchdown, making it a 34-28 game with one minute and 12 seconds renaming.

Adams Central would finish the season as the Class 1A State Runner-ups with a 13-2 overall record, while Heyerly claimed the Mental Attitude Award.
