FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The man accused of killing a toddler in May is set to appear in court on Friday.

Shaquille Rowe is charged with three felony counts, including murder, related to the death of Aiden Clark. The boy was found with severe injuries at an apartment in the 2700 block of Millbrook Drive last May. He was rushed to a hospital, but died.

An autopsy classified his death a homicide and found that the cause was blunt force injuries to the chest. The coroner noted that Aiden’s sternum was fractured and his heart was “ripped in half.”

Police arrested Rowe, who claims he was in the shower when he heard crying and that Aiden was not breathing when he reached the child. A hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. at Allen County Superior Court and is likely to be the last step before the start of Rowe’s trial, which is scheduled for Jan. 4.
