FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Fort Wayne Komets all-time leading scorer, Len Thornson, passed away from a lengthy illness on Sunday. He was 88.

Thornson secured seven IHL MVP awards, leading the league in scoring three separate times, while capturing two Turner Cups (1963, ‘65) with the Komets.

Thornson’s impeccable playing career matched his character off the ice.

“What a great person he was,” Komets VP and general manager David Franke said to WPTA.

“A great family man, a great father, he was the total package.”

The Hockey News named Thornson the IHL’s greatest player of all-time in 1997.
