The challenge started off Monday by a $10,000 match from a donor. That match was met before the 5 p.m. deadline, Humane Fort Wayne said. An additional $25,000 in matching funds was announced around 4 p.m. with a midnight deadline. In all, the shelter raised $80,722 in memory of Betty White, who was known to be an animal advocate.

The funds will be used to make much needed repairs and replacements, the shelter said in a statement.
