Indiana State Police warn of overnight road conditions

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Officers with the Indiana State Police responded to dozens of accidents in the Fort Wayne area Monday and they are still warning of overnight road conditions.

Sgt. Brian Walker with the Indiana State Police says they responded to 35 accidents before 2:00p.m. Monday evening. He says their troopers have been working to keep the roads clear of those accidents.

“It’s imperative that drivers reduce their speed,” he said. “You’ve got traffic going along going too fast then they have to slam on their breaks and lose control.”

The Fort Wayne Police Department activity log showed more than a dozen crashes as well before lunchtime alone.

Walker says it’s important drivers steer clear of their emergency vehicles and police officers, otherwise it will cause traffic delays or even more accidents.

“These are extreme icy conditions that were unexpected in certain areas,” he said. “We are doing our due diligence to come out and make sure everyone is as safe as possible.”

He says the majority of the accidents they responded to were on I-69, I-469, US 24 and US 30. Walker says make sure to watch out for those slick spots overnight as the temperatures remain low.
