Indiana bill banning transgender athletes passes House
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC and AP) - A bill introduced in the Indiana House that would ban transgender women and girls from participating in school sports has advanced.
The Republican-backed bill, HB1041, passed the House of Representatives late Thursday afternoon and is headed to the Senate. It would prohibit transgender students who identify as female from participating in a sports team designated for girls.
Earlier this week, the legislation drew nearly three hours of testimony in the House education committee, with opponents maintaining that it unfairly discriminates against Hoosier youth.

This bill is not only unconstitutional, it sends a cruel message to vulnerable trans kids that they are not welcome or accepted in their communities. #LetKidsPlay #INLegis pic.twitter.com/8fr21IjqUU
