FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Thursday afternoon, Congressman Jim Banks (R) announced that he has filed to run for re-election to represent the 3rd District of Indiana.

Banks is running for his fourth term in the United States House of Representatives. He has been serving the area since 2010, first as a State Senator. He will run in a slightly modified Third District that has historically tilted to the right of the political spectrum. Banks has won recent campaigns by substantial margins, and most analysts consider the seat to be “Safe Republican” again in 2022.

Banks has been an outspoken critic of the Biden Administration and frequently espoused support for former president Donald Trump. He is the Chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee.

“I’m running for re-election to reverse the direction of our country and protect our conservative values and way of life,” Banks said in a statement. “I helped President Trump pass his America First agenda and have watched the disastrous effects of Joe Biden’s socialist policies. It’s time we put Indiana and our country back on the track President Trump set us on four years ago. I answered the call to serve my country years ago, and I don’t intend to stop fighting for America until we finish the job.”

Three people have filed to run as Democrats in the Third District: Phillip Beachy, Aaron “A.J.” Calkins and Gary L. Snyder.
