FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A Fort Wayne child was recognized on Thursday for jumping into action and making a call that helped save his mother.

The Consolidated Communications Partnership (CCP) says the 5-year-old dialed 911 on Jan. 27 to get help for his mother who was unconscious inside their home. A release sent by CCP says thanks to the boy’s bravery, he was able to provide answers to the dispatcher to get immediate aid to his mom.

“It’s me Elijah, and I’m a kid, my dad’s not here so he can’t answer it and my mom can’t answer it because she’s shaking... She’s on the couch, she’s sleeping and she’s not waking up,” 911 audio released by the CCP says.

The CCP Board, consisting of Commissioner Beck, Sheriff Gladieux, Chief Reed, and Chief Lahey, held a celebration on Thursday to recognize the child as a “Kid Hero”.
