ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Indiana State Police (ISP) say they are investigating after an inmate in her 60′s was found dead at the St. Joseph County Jail.

In a media release, ISP says they were contacted Monday, Feb. 21, after jail staff found 63-year-old Rebecca Powell of South Bend unresponsive in the medical isolation unit just after 4 a.m. They say jail and medical staff immediately began life-saving efforts until emergency medical technicians arrived.

She was pronounced dead at the jail. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Powell at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine in Kalamazoo, MI, on Feb. 24.
