FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The e-learning debate continues nationwide. It comes as some schools across the U.S., including here in the Hoosier State went back to virtual learning temporarily last month when COVID-19 Cases were surging.

We talked to an education attorney at Connell Michael Kerr, LLP Catherine Michael who gave us a better look at the effects it has when kids have to get up and leave the classroom to learn at home. she says for kids leaving a setting where they get to interact and play with friends can be problematic on a child’s ability to focus continuing developing social skills.

She also says it would add more screen time for kids who are already spending time playing video games and watching television, which could present more problems for children.

“We’re seeing our kids become substantially less active and that substantial lack of activity is tied to heightened levels of anxiety, heightened levels of depression. That’s really what us parents you have to be out on the look out for.”

Michael’s tip for parents who have kids in e-learning, do everything you can to keep your child very structured, make sure they’re up moving around, and make learning as interactive as you can make it.
