FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Big changes are happening in public transit nationwide following a ruling from a federal judge that strikes down a mask mandate on public travel.

The ruling comes just days after the TSA extended its mask requirement, which would’ve been in place until May 3. You can now get on some planes, buses and other forms of public transit without a mask.

“I think you should have your own choice at this point,” Jack Didier said. “Everybody’s had a chance to get it taken care of if they’ve wanted to. If they didn’t, that’s up to them.”

Tuesday morning, Fort Wayne International Airport officials announced on social media that passengers will not be required to wear masks. Even with this ruling, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends you mask up when using public transportation.

“It’s a headache,” Jody Julian said. “You have to remember your mask all the time.”

This ruling extends beyond planes. You will also no longer have wear a mask if you travel on Citilink buses.

“It’s up to each person honestly,” Jay Braden said. “I still wear mine on the bus because with close contacts, you never know.”

Citilink officials said in a statement Tuesday, they are glad to see passengers faces again and they ask people to be respectful to each other.

Airport and Citilink leaders also say they will have masks available if you want to wear them.
