FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A piece of rail history was moved to its new home near Fort Wayne Outfitters on Cass Street early Saturday. The move is the first step in phase one of Headwaters Junction’s planned riverfront rail attraction, just east of the Wells Street Bridge.

A former 1953 US Army hospital car has been restored to be used at the riverfront for private events.

The next step in the plan is set for Monday, when the Craigville Depot will be moved next to the hospital car. The Depot was built in 1879 along the Nickel Plate Railroad, and it has been restored to serve ice cream and coffee in its new location.

“After many years of developing the overall vision for Headwaters Junction and winning meaningful public support along the way, we’re excited to finally be in a position to show very visible progress. This Phase I development will compliment Promenade Park and enhance the riverfront experience,” says Kelly Lynch, Executive Director of Headwaters Junction Inc,.
