Fire Marshal: H.K. Porter blaze intentionally set

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - April’s fire at Huntington’s abandoned H.K. industrial plant was intentionally set according to Huntington Fire Marshal David Teush.

“The cause of the fire at 1849 Sabine St. Huntington, Ind., was determined to be a result of an intentional human act,” according to a release from HFD Tuesday morning.

“There is an ongoing investigation by the Huntington Fire Department, Huntington Police Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office,” concluded the release.

Last month flames engulfed Huntington’s abandoned H.K. Porter industrial site, forcing some nearby residents to voluntarily evacuate.

The H.K. Porter factory first opened in 1919 and has had different operations throughout the years, ranging from manufacturing asbestos to friction materials. The plant closed in 1999.
