Trine sweeps Case Western Reserve, advances to Salem

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Trine Thunder sweep Case Western Reserve, punching a ticket to the NCAA Division III Softball National Championships for the fourth time in program history.

It was scoreless until freshman Emma Beyer sent a solo shot over the left field fence, helping Trine claim the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Case Western Reserve responded in hurry during the bottom of the fourth, driving in a run to lock the game at 1.

The Thunder’s bats came alive through the next three innings, including solo moonshot from Ainsley Phillips in the sixth frame all a part of the, 6-2, victory over the Spartans.

Trine is heading to National Finals as one of eight teams vying for the championship in Salem, Virginia starting Thursday, May 26.
