FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Probable causes obtained by Fort Wayne’s NBC describe a fight at the Three Rivers Festival (TRF) involving suspects carrying handguns.

According to the document, on July 9, a detective with the Fort Wayne Police (FWPD) was working the festival detail when a fight involving firearms broke out in the food court area in Headwaters Park around 7:30 p.m.

When the detective arrived, a witness pointed out two women and said they were involved and that one of the women had a gun in her hand. The woman told police that her boyfriend, Abraham X. Simmons, 21, had dropped the gun when he got into a fight with another man at the food court.

Both Simmons and the other man, Krystopher Acoff, 21, were arrested by the police as they tried to run away.

Simmons told officers that he believed Acoff asked him “What’s good” while putting his hand on his girlfriend’s purse. The probable cause says Simmons believed that Acoff was reaching for a gun, so Simmons pulled his gun out of his waistband and began to “pistol whip” Acoff. The documents say Simmons had a previous conviction of carrying a handgun without a license in October of 2020.

The probable cause document for Acoff says that his girlfriend did have a gun in her purse, but the woman stated that when Acoff reached into her purse for the gun, she turned away. Acoff told police that his hand prints would be on the gun.

Acoff was charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun-prior felony conviction within the last 15 years. Back in 2019, Acoff was sentenced to spend two years home detention after he got off of a school bus and fired shots into the air. He was 18 at the time.

Simmons was charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun.

Both men are in the Allen County Jail on a 72-hour hold.
