FWPD: Traffic stop nets drugs, guns

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A traffic stop Thursday evening led to the arrest of a Fort Wayne man Fort Wayne Police (FWPD) says.

FWPD says around 6:18 p.m., officers of the FWPD Vice and Narcotics Division pulled over 32-year-old Melvin Green III at the intersection of Pontiac Street and Fleetwood Avenue. During the stop, officers found 30 grams of fentanyl and 1.3 grams of marijuana.

Police say undercover detectives had bought fentanyl from Green before and had established a probable cause for his arrest.

Officers then used a search warrant at a house at 2713 S. Harrison Street, where police say undercover detectives had bought fentanyl from Green. Officers found nine more grams of fentanyl, 3.1 grams of heroin, and less than a gram of fentanyl.

Police say officers also found two semi-automatic handguns, $1,600 in cash, and two scales.

Green has been charged with several counts of dealing narcotics and maintaining a common nuisance.
