FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - For a family with a child in the hospital, everyday tasks take a backseat. Thanks to donations, volunteerism, and pure-hearted dedication, the Ronald McDonald House of Northeast Indiana is there to provide physical and emotional support at no cost to the family.

“We are here to provide a home away from home in that we are an in-hospital house,” says CEO Jenifer Veatch.

“Most houses are free standing but we have a great opportunity to be in the hospital.”

North Manchester resident Amy Boszor experienced first-hand the mental and physical support found at the Northeast Indiana RMHC.

“When I had my first son I was able to stay at the hospital while he was getting better,” says Boszor.

“He was a premature, he had some other medical things going on. The Ronald McDonald House was able to give me a place to sleep while my baby was upstairs in the NICU.”

When the Boszor family experienced another medical scare, this time with Amy’s second son Sawyer, the RMHC was once again there to help support and provide.

“For my second child they were there a second time because again my other son was born premature, and he had more issues and it was hard for me to understand those medical issues,” says Boszor.

“The Ronald McDonald House were there to explain and be an advocate for me for my child because I didn’t know what to do.”

The support provided by RMCH is made possible through the generosity of Northeast Indiana communities.

“Like many other charities we are experiencing increased needs,” says Veatch.

“Those pantry donations, whether that be cases of water, whether that be individual chips, mean a great deal. That is how we feed the families who live with us: 16 families breakfast lunch and dinner. "

While supplies last, one way Hoosiers can help the Northeast Indiana branch is by purchasing a $10 bucket-hat at a local McDonald’s. All proceeds from those purchases go directly to Northeast Indiana’s RMCH.

“With every family that comes through our doors our goal is to make them feel at home. We provide the amenities, but we also look to go beyond the amenities,” says Veatch.

“We want to wrap around those families so that when they leave they’re in a better place than when they arrived.”

“They’re there. They’re going to be there as best they can,” says Boszor.
