AUBURN, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Two people are dead in DeKalb County, Indiana State Police (ISP) say.

Around 8:40 a.m. Monday, Auburn Police officers were called to the 800 block of Griswold Court for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived at the home, they saw a car leaving the area, State Police say. Officers tried to stop the car, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit.

Multiple departments became involved in the pursuit, including the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police. As the suspect drove southeast of Auburn on County Road 46A, ending up north on Country Road 51, officers were able to successfully deploy stop-sticks at County Road 51 and Indiana 8.

The pursuit continued north on County Road 51 at slower speeds, State Police say, when there were reports of shots being fired from inside the car. The car came to a stop on County Road 51, south of County Road 40.

Officers found two people inside the car, the woman driver and an unresponsive man in the backseat both appeared to be suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, State Police say. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

ISP detectives preliminarily believe it was a domestic situation that resulted in a murder-suicide, but detectives are still gathering facts about what took place at the Griswold Court residence.

The identities will be identified by the DeKalb County Coroner’s office after the family is notified.

No officers were injured during the pursuit and no shots were fired by officers.

The investigation is ongoing.
