Police: Man barricades self, woman and child in Fort Wayne home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says a man barricaded himself, and for a time, a woman and 7-year-old child in a home Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the home, in the 5700 block of Alta Vista Court, after a friend called and said the woman had locked herself in a bedroom and had barricaded the door. FWPD says when the suspect, Daniel Barlag, 32, realized the victim had contacted police, he let her and the child go.

Barlag refused to come out and barricaded himself inside the home, FWPD says. Multiple attempts were made to get Barlag to come out on his own, but he refused. The Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit were called out and Barlag surrendered after EST entered the home.

Barlag was preliminarily charged with felony criminal confinement.

No one was injured during the incident.
