FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Several northeast Indiana counties are currently under a travel watch after a Winter Storm Warning was issued Wednesday for much of the area.

More counties including Allen are issuing a “travel watch” or “travel advisory” as conditions begin to worsen on the roads. As of Wednesday morning, snow is now falling in much of northeastern Indiana, with high accumulation anticipated. The travel watch means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public and that only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended.

Yesterday, the City of Fort Wayne said their buildings will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, and Allen County offices will be closed Wednesday. Advisories may be updated as travel conditions deteriorate and will be posted online at this website.

A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service took effect at 5 a.m. Wednesday and continues through 7 p.m. on Thursday.  The storm is expected to produce snowfall totals of 10-15 inches from tonight through Thursday. Strong northeast winds will cause blowing snow and reduced visibility.
